Have a Cocktail or Two or Three
Next week is Thanksgiving, and then we are full blown into the holiday season. Shopping will take over a large part of your life, whether you like it or not. And inbetween breaks to the mall, your favorite boutique, eating baked goods, running off that pie at the gym and working your ass off to pay for all of that “stuff”– you will, no doubt, have parties to attend. There will be shindigs that only require a bottle of wine and your favorite jeans, but every once and while you’ll have to throw on the heels and show some skin in holiday spirit.
The cocktail dress, does it fill you with dread or cheer? I’m on the fence with this one, finding something that looks good on a rack or 6ft tall model doesn’t always ring true when you slip it on your frame. Hours of one’s life is lost in a dressing room with horrible lighting. If you’re lucky, you’re with someone who’s honest, who will clue you in on your uni-boob taking shape in your tube dress.
The whole empire waist trend and bubble skirt craze have completely devoured the cocktail dress. If you have any sort of a chest, your figure resembles a balloon or very pregnant woman. I tried to pull it off in Belize and a Rastafarian man asked if I ate too much at dinner, as my beautiful empire dress blew up in the wind like a parachute. Truthfully, I wanted to flip him off, but I realized he was just being honest, exactly what I craved! if only he were waiting for me outside a dressing room, and not a bar trying to sell me weed.
It’s hard to find anything fitted, since when is hiding your curves sexy?

D&G Dolce & Gabbana Bustier Dress: I don’t think you could squeeze yourself into a tighter dress, this is definitely not empire waist.
And for those who have bank accounts much larger than mine, or at least credit limits waiting to be tapped, this Versace dress makes my toes tingle.
